Pricing Explanation for Heat Vinyl Transfer (HTV) and Embroidery Designs
At Sew Atlanta, we offer two popular methods for customizing apparel and products: Heat Vinyl Transfer (HTV) and Embroidery. While both provide excellent quality and durability, the pricing for each is based on different factors, which we’ll explain below.

Because each customer order is unique, it's difficult to provide standard pricing for our services. In addition to offering a wide selection of garments that you can choose from for your design, we also specialize in customizing garments you already own and love, adding personalized designs to make them truly your own!
HTV or Embroidery?
-
HTV is ideal for vibrant, multi-colored designs, especially for smaller runs or one-off orders. It's also perfect for more intricate designs and can be used on a wide variety of fabrics.
-
Embroidery offers a classic, professional look and is best for logos or designs with fewer colors. It’s highly durable and works well on garments that require a premium finish, such as polos, jackets, and hats.
1. Heat Vinyl Transfer (HTV)
Heat Vinyl Transfer is a process where a design is cut from a colored vinyl sheet and then heat-pressed onto your garment. The pricing for HTV is determined by several key factors:
-
Design Size: Larger designs require more vinyl and longer press times, which increases the cost. Pricing is typically based on the square inch or overall dimensions of the design.
-
Number of Colors: Each color of vinyl used in a design requires a separate cutting and pressing step. More colors in the design will increase the complexity and price. We charge per color in the design.
-
Garment Type: The type of garment or material also influences the cost. Some fabrics are more difficult to press onto than others, and certain garment types (e.g., hoodies, jackets) may incur a slightly higher price.
-
Quantity: Bulk orders can often receive discounts, as the process is more efficient when producing larger volumes.
2. Embroidery
Embroidery is a process where thread is stitched into the fabric to create the design. Embroidery pricing is based on the following factors:
-
Stitch Count: The main driver of embroidery pricing is the stitch count, which refers to the number of individual stitches required to complete the design. Larger or more detailed designs require more stitches, and thus, higher costs. You can think of it as the “resolution” of your design.
-
Design Complexity: Intricate, fine-detail designs require more time and precision to embroider, which may increase the cost.
-
Thread Colors: Similar to HTV, each thread color in the design will require additional setup and time. However, unlike HTV, we generally include a set number of colors in the price, and extra charges may apply for designs with multiple color changes.
-
Garment Type: Like HTV, different garment types can affect the embroidery cost. For example, embroidery on thicker materials (such as jackets or hats) may be more expensive than on t-shirts.
-
Quantity: As with HTV, larger quantities of embroidered products often allow us to offer volume discounts.
Additional Considerations
-
Setup Fees: For both HTV and embroidery, we may charge a one-time setup fee for digitizing designs (embroidery) or creating the vinyl cut file (HTV). This fee covers the time spent preparing your design for production.
-
Customization and Additional Services: If your order requires special attention, such as custom color matching or unique garment types (e.g., bags, caps, or specialty items), this can impact pricing.
